Our History and Mission
The City of West Linn and concerned citizens formed the Library Foundation to generate additional support for West Linn's Public Library. In June of 2010, the Foundation received tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS further designated the Foundation as a 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) public foundation.
The Foundation's mission is twofold:
Helen Juarez-Bolt, Board Member
Martha is the wife to David, mother of Taylor and Dean and pet parent to three fur babies. A resident of West Linn for nineteen years, Martha loves our City's sense of community. Martha held volunteered in our community in all the schools her children attended. For many years, Martha served our West Linn schools as an ardent volunteer and member of the PTO. Martha values our library immensely and is delighted to direct her energy and time in a way that will have a different impact on our community.
Heidi has lived in West Linn for fifteen years. She and her husband, John, have two children, a 21 year old daughter at college in New York, and a 19 year old son at college in California. She loves our community and our library was a big part of it when her kids were younger. Even before being appointed Director in February 2015, Doug had strong ties with the West Linn Library and the West Linn Community. Doug has served as chair of the West Linn Library Board, has lived in West Linn for many years, and his wife Stacy has been a teacher and librarian at West Linn high school for twenty years.
Doug brings an extensive amount of experience to the library, having worked for twenty-four years at Lewis and Clark College's Watzek Library as an archivist, head of special collections, and Associate Director. Doug is passionate about creating a library environment that engages and inspires all patrons, from "a young child learning for the first time in story time or early literacy, all the way to adults where we engage in talks about new ideas or new materials or literature."
The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of up to fifteen Directors, who are elected by the Board to three-year terms.
Originally from the East Coast, Beth moved to West Linn with her spouse, Chris, in 2011. A lawyer by profession, Beth is on hiatus from the law to raise her daughter and son, who are both huge fans of the Library’s children’s programming. Beth, herself, loves the Library’s eBook collection, which happens to be robust in her recent favorites: feminist memoirs, suspense-thrillers, political satire and anything written by Kurt Vonnegut.
